And here we are, right at the start of a new year. Happy New year to all. We wish you a beautiful year full of new experiences, and pure joy! For a year full of bravery, wellness and many celebrations + unexpected triumphs.
New year, new me they say! Well, I’m not going to necessarily play it that way. For the past several years, I have taken on what seems like the endless task of working on my inner self. From growing self-love, to growing relationships with those who match my intentional effort. Also in feeding my own creativity, inching my feet forward in environments that seem to counteract my nervous system's energy, and most importantly, building the life that I know is deserved.
The past several years have produced a unique culmination of challenges. Some might suggest deep pain. Instances that happen in many lives, that are unforeseen; unimagined. They’re the kind that snatch hold of your world and squeeze it tightly. Perhaps extremely aware of the tension, the extreme cold or heat, of the discomfort it delivers unto you. Sometimes life has this amusing way of eroding everything you’re holding onto, until it feels like you have nothing left. It takes until there is no more. Nothing left pending. But then something in difference happens.. Something you’ve been waiting for.. Your faith, your hope, is finally acknowledged.
Things begin to shift, lighten and feelings of for the better.
Slowly, you begin to experience life’s touches of love. Small wins, here and there. You begin to feel something positive about yourself and the world in its existence around you. You start to hear bird songs, your nervous system remembers humor, random surprises of laughter abound, and the sun feels warm and comfortable like is should, yet again. You begin to feel what once was there: the human that you were and possibly the human that you actually are.
And day by day, morning after morning, as you get up, get dressed and begin movement, your natural rhythm begins to pulse. The gentle hum that is unique to you becomes more steady; stronger. If you are familiar with this flow, you know it is a good sign and you look for opportunities to enforce it. To nurture it and to grow it.
The “it”, is You.
The not so amusing part, is that it doesn’t mean you are better; at 100%. That your world has flipped and now you’re on the up side. It just means that you are making progress, and that one day, you will be on the upside. I think I hit the upside last year. It feels like it very much. It has for quite a while now. But I haven't stopped doing the work. The work of paying attention to me, and to me with others. I haven’t stopped paying attention to what my body is saying, and to how my world is feeling.
This brings me to now, January 2026
New year, new me? No. New year, but we are still in Winter. My favorite season. It is the season for rest; restoration. To be still, to feel the comfort in the shut down and the stillness. Where birds' songs are welcome and your sense of hearing is sparked, and the sun is remembered for what it gives. To sit in comfortable moments of gratitude. To reflect and dream of possibilities of the future. The future that begins in the Spring, when everything comes back to life. When you can visually see and smell the colors of life that have been hiding, in rest.
I believe it’s in Spring that new opportunities to attract, create, build on and discover begin. When the internal hustle clock clicks on. So myself and we at Deeper. want to suggest that if you aren’t ready for the new year norm, it’s ok. You don’t have to be. We are still in the season of Winter, and it is the absolutely perfect time to continue to build yourself, so that when the time is right, when you are ready to step out and give it what you’ve got - the world feels exciting, warm and ready for you.
